AFI JOINED UST-FMS IN THE BLESSING OF THE NEWLY RENOVATED LABORATORY UNITS, OFFICES, AND CLASSROOMS
To mark the completion of renovations inside the St. Martin de Porres Medicine Building, a blessing ceremony was held on May 19, 2023. This momentous event brought together the University officials, FMS faculty members, other community members, and AFI. In her welcome message, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Maglinao, Dean of the UST-FMS, expressed her appreciation to all those involved in the renovation process and emphasized the building’s vital role in training the next generation of Thomasian physicians.
Dean Maglinao noted, “Today is a day of gratitude. Gratitude turns what we have into enough. This event is yet another proof that we can turn a vision into fruition and bring a dream into reality”.
Present during the blessing rite and to show their support to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, were the UST Rector, Rev. Fr. Richard Ang, O.P.,: Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. (Sec. General), Fr. Dexter Austria, O.P. (Facilities and Management Office Director), Fr. Jesus Jay Miranda, O.P. (UST, BOT), Fr. Senen Ecleo, O.P. (Regent, College of Commerce and Business Administration), and Fr. George Phe Mang, O.P. (Regent, Faculty of Arts and Letter) who were assigned to the different floors.
Fr. Angel Aparicio, O.P., Regent of FMS, worked closely with the Campus Ministry to make this occasion meaningful and memorable. Aside from this event, UST FMS also celebrated its 152nd Founding Anniversary on May 28, 2023.
MODERNIZATION IMPERATIVE
Almost a decade ago, when Fr. Angel Aparicio, O.P. was appointed as the Regent of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, he and the Faculty recognized the need for structural innovation to adapt to 21st century medical education.
After years of planning and working on the project, it has now come to completion. Fr. Angel Aparicio confirmed, “This is the first time that a vast renovation has been undertaken. There have been renovations in the past, but less encompassing than this.”
AFI, fulfilling its commitment to the UST FMS, funded the audio-visual equipment acquisition and its installation in the new laboratories and lecture halls and the refurbishing of the faculty rooms at a cost approximately PhP 12 Million. “
Anargyroi really helped us a lot on this (project) and we are grateful for that,” said Dr. Melvin R. Marcial, chairman of the Department of Medicine. Naming rights for 18 renovated rooms in St. Martin de Porres Medicine Building are still available. Join us in creating a lasting legacy within our Alma Mater!
